The Porter House

The other day Matt & I thought we would have dinner out. We went to Shrewsbury, as it is the nearest  town/shopping center to us as we live in a very rural area with a population of 140 people. Crickets chirp. Yes I am serious.

Our little town gets us down, as our only day off work is on a sunday, & everything worth visiting nearby is closed. & When I say there is nothing to do in our little village I am deadly serious. There is a tiny store, a cafe, a tiny museum, & a pub. That's all. Why don't you leave you ask? Because we made the mistake of signing work contracts, sigh, & we have a few months left before we can go.

Anyway back to the beginning, we had nothing to do in our town so hopped on a train to Shrewsbury.

We found a nice little spot called the Porter House. It's a lovely little place just off the high street that serves gorgeous food, has great decor, friendly staff & a big welcoming bar. & on sundays, they do live music. Perfect.

We walked in & did what we do best & ordered our first cocktails & browsed the menu.

We then waited for an hour or so for my parents to join. We got peckish & ordered cajun fries & more cocktails whilst waiting...

After they arrived we were shown to a table outside in the conservatory which was lovely & light & started off with ordering wine.

For starters my parents shared an Avacado prawn cocktail,

Matt & I shared duck eggs & chargrilled asparagus with a spicy chutney sauce. Delish.

For mains my mother had a pepper risotto,

Matt had a chargrilled steak burger with fries,

& my stepdad & I had the halloumi & spiced vegetable burritos & fries which were oh so good & making me hungry right now!

We ordered more wine & were serenaded by the live act from the bar, a wonderful singer who had an amazing voice covering the likes of Amy Winehouse, George Ezra, & more. Unfortunately I forgot to get her name! Boo!

We then moved onto dessert.

Matt had a strawberry & peanut butter cheesecake,

My stepdad chose the fruit jelly,

& I had the maple pecan slice with creme fraiche.

It was a lovely meal. I love spending an evening in a restaurant, eating good food, talking on into the night & getting tipsy on one too many glasses of Prosecco. Oops.

The Porter House was a lovely place & great find. We will definitely be back again!

If you are in Shrewsbury I highly recommend a visit! It even has rooms if you need a stop over.
